Hi all, starting to dig around in here again now I'm finally managing to commit to the Ascona properly this year! It really has been one problem after another with it over time, from odd sized mechanical parts, difficult to obtain panels, paint problems or rather him snapping his back mid way through! Courier companies damaging new parts the list went on. Hey ho, restoration from the ground up never runs smoothly as you'll likley all know even with smaller projects but it's coming now. So where are we as of now? Well it runs, I need a stainless making up for it before spring, tyres to order, seats & carpets in and a few other bits but it's 75% there now. All the suspe…

I purchased towards the end of last year a one owner SR that has been off the road for 33 odd years. I am in the process of recommisioning but finding it difficult to obtain some parts and info. For instance I require a new fuel tank but cannot find a seller for the correct carb tank. Also having difficulty finding a supplier for an exhaust system.

Iam on with the carb as the choke ain't engaging with it being the varajet 2 not many about! Keep looking for future updates!

So in February I bought a 1984 Opel Ascona 1.8 Gls 5speed Hatchback For a super bargin Car needs some work but overall it looks not to bad. There is some cosmetics needing fixing but I like it as it is don't intent on spraying it. So I started breaking it but I've stopped in the middle of it and having another idea to fix it instead of braking it cause body is solid. Please let me know what your thoughts are. Save it, break it and scrap it. So faults on the car I sold master cylinder Rear brakes needs attention Need a master cylinder or just swap the brake servo and master cylinder all together. Will need…

Hi everyone, My father sadly died recently and he has a low mileage D-reg Mk2 Saloon sitting in his garage, I think it's a 1.6 petrol. It was last driven around 2000/2001 and has been covered indoors since then. I came across this forum so thought I'd check, what's the best place to sell the vehicle? I believe an expert could get it running, or even use it for parts. Thanks Chris

Hi everyone ๐ I did in fact sign up 5 years ago but due to life and not using my Cav since then either, I forgot I even had an account. The Cav is still in the garage but I'm hoping to get her out this summer and was looking for car clubs when I rediscovered here. So here I am. Sticking my head out to hopefully make some new, like minded friends ๐. Are there any others from the South West on here? I'm in Somerset. So, when my commuting jalopy dies (a 2005 Fiat Doblo) I will be starting work on the Cav, making sure the engines still good, that there's no new rot, replace a couple tyres, new antenna, new gas struts for the boot, get her MOTd and then get to work …

Hi, just signed up as a "young 'un" (mk3 Cav), in preparation for VBOA. I owned a 1.6 Mk2 many years ago, and remember it being a great car. These days this is my daily driver, as ironically all my (much younger) cars are broken one way or another!.... Hopefully I'll get to meet some of you at VBOA and your cars will bring back some happy memories for me!

Hi all, this is a little embarrassing, I've forgotten what a connector is for under the bonnet... Next to the washer bottle, with the RON plug and fuel relay loom. It doesn't go anywhere but has a link fitted/plugged in. Any ideas what it's for appreciated. It's an 88 2.0 SEH

Hi all so there is this 1984 Opel Ascona 1.8 Gls automatic that I have been trying to buy from this one guy the car is just standing infront of the yard. He says the gearboxis faulty. Problem is its automatic I would like to find out what parts would I need to swap it to manual? Floors and arches are still solid. It hasn't moved since 2016/2017 becaused of the defective automatic gearbox. What other automatic gearbox would work? Unfortunately we never got the mk3 cavalier /opel vectra in South Africa so the next best thing would be astra mk3 or astra f like we call it. I have a spare f16 for my white car I have astra mk2 manual bits would li…

Hello everyone. I've found this board while looking for information on Ascona's in general and more specifically Irmschers. I'm actually a total Mercedes guy but this car kind of found me itself. Seems I've gotten myself a bit of rare Opel his…
