This is my cav sri redtop just put it back on the road after many years of storage. Having afew running issues if anyone can help? From cold doesn’t seem to start first crank but always second time and also is developed hesitation or feels like a really bad misfire after a few miles of driving (when warm) can anybody advise with this? Thanks

Welcome to the site.  Its a bit slow around here.

Where are you and how about a few more pictures? Good looking car.

Fault sounds heat related, something expanding and letting air in. Are the vacuum hoses solid and the inlet manifold OK? No air leak between the AFM and the throttle body?

That’s for your reply i have noticed the slow replies 😂 yeah all vac hoses ect fine and no external leaks. Seems worse when cornering so im going to check fuel pressure and probably drop the fuel tank as it has been standing for many years and the first couple of days being on the road it ran faultlessly. Thanks for the compliment yeah i do have some more pictures of the old girl.

Haven’t tried running without the cap off. I like to let it warm up but if i drive it from cold it doesn’t seem to misbehave at all. Only after afew miles. Normally it starts straight up but just recently it sometimes cranks first time with no fire then strikes up straight away second time

Smart install from the photo. Did you do it? Why off the road for so long?

My questions were after info as to whether it could be a vacuum build up in the tank restricting fuel supply when used for a while. Or when starting, if the pressure in the petrol header manifold had dropped and needed some pump action to get it up before it would fire.

I have an XE'd Mk3.

Yes mate i did the installation many years ago. Been off the road for 14 years in dry storage with some other projects. Im going to rig a fuel pressure gauge to the rail and tape it to the windscreen see what the rail pressure is as it hesitates. Failing that i am tempted to drop the tank just for a look.

nice i always liked the mk3’s. i have had 5 mk2’s and this one was the first 😊

Yes It was! I originally bought the car when i was 18 so an audio system was a must! 😂 yeah I always wanted to redtop it so i did but didn’t really use it after i did and then it ended up at the back of the lockup. Im a mechanic by trade but working on modern cars these days is nothing like these! I miss this much room around an engine bay!

to be honest i just did a google as it’s always good to get a second opinion at times 👍🏼

Thats a nice colour, has the body had much work regarding the usual rust areas? Regarding the missing i cannot add much to what John said, but many years ago i had something similar on the 130 which was only about seven years old at the time and i changed the plugs which had only been in for around 7 or 8000 miles ( its many years ago so but i think it was somewhere around that ) and all was well. On inspection of the old plugs (  champion plugs ) there was a fine crack in the ceramic around the centre electrode. Just a thought and easy to check.

Car looks nice Luke.  Do you run the sri130 external pump setup or the mk3 in-tank pump?
