  1. Hi guys. What with the new site going live and it being my 10th anniversary with mk2cav.com I thought I would write a blog, hopefully encouraging others to do the same! I first joined the club in 2005, after buying an SRi. I wanted to join a club and be a part of something that fellow owners had in common; now I'm a quiet sort of person and was a little apprehensive about my first experience of meeting new people.. but after making the effort I now have some fantastic friends all over the country. I have had many cavs over the last 10 years as I have not been been able to pin down and find exa

  2. This has come up a few times now and as decent shells 1.8 & 2.0 become more scarce using lower spec cars as a project base makes more sense. The main difference between the 1.3-1.6 shell and the 1.8-2.0 shell is that the 1.8-2.0 has a more beefy front subframe and crossmember setup. The issue is that you cannot simply transfer the subframe across. The longer subframe is located by 2 bolts in the centre while the shorter ones have one bolt and a locating dowl. Longer subframe Shorter subframe

  3. First of all, I want to express my unimaginable happiness for stumbling upon this forum. Cavalier mk2, or Opel Ascona, the brand I have are seriously underappreciated cars, and as such I'm having real difficulties finding resources to work. I look forward to using this forum, learning from it and sharing what I can. So, my name is Marko, I'm from Serbia, and I have a 1987 Opel Ascona sedan. The engine is the type that went into Corsa/Nova, the 1.3 S, available on Ascona only in some markets... underpowered slightly, but that's in the books for the future. Car itself is decently good, floo

  11. Newbody - you were not the only one caught out with this. As soon as we get something through we communicate it here. Unfortunately some seem to be taking the "post to social media first" approach - so genuinely this latest one has caught is on the hop too, or we'd have put it on the poll. ๐Ÿ˜“

  14. I thought LMF had done a good job last year, plus fly past was spot on. Seems a shame as LMF stepped in when Billing werenโ€™t interested. What happens if Billing changes mind in 2 years time and kick VBOA out again?

  15. @HiluxV8Did you see the final full size pics of your car "lit up" at night yet? If you are not on the FB group, they will be part of the video I'll be making for the site just shortly. Thank you to all who attended, I had a great time and it felt like the start of something again which was a marked improvement on last year.

  18. Hello again everyone. Been a long time, no longer a Cavalier owner sadly, sold it to a fellow member. Anyway, saving again, should be a position to buy one next year with a decent budget ( as long as they donโ€™t keep rising! ) Good for you owners, not for us buyers!!

  24. Suggest you leave the brakes as is. It certainly isn't worth the hassle of changing the rears to disc, drum brakes just sit there and go on and on, bloody rear discs rust away if not continuously used, a real pain. Also you might have difficulty finding original 13" as most of them seem to have gone motor racing, I know mine did. There was/is a class that uses wide 13" like that. And welcome to Mk2Cav by the way

  25. toilets on a sunday as the day went on got quite bad again due to users lack of toilet training and disregard for the facillites and others. People had stuck paper towel in urinals then used them manged to miss the bowl when taking a number 2 the posh loo's someone had found it comical to throw all the paper towels about and flood the sides. Suggestion for toilets have one on each club stand for that club down to them to maintain so more respect should be shown to it and others dotted about for general use Bit more clarity on costing and rules/regs in advance for

  26. UPDATE - If the weather holds this could be one of the best shows It is clear that VBOA has changed, the old guard has now gone and the new, younger, team is taking it by the scruff of the neck and shaking it, hard. Gone is the day when we subcontract the Annual Show to an outside organiser, it is now in-house and boy, is it changing. Sywell, it is now clear, is a proven and well organised site for self managed shows. So relax, the basic show with all our pitches is still there, no changes as to how we organise or what we put on our stand for example, apart perhaps from a slightly re

  30. The first I knew was an email at 21.40 that I read half an hour ago. Sounds as if it could have some potential from an initial read. This is it. Good Evening, For the purpose of clarification, when the term โ€œweโ€ is used, it is to refer to the VBOA committee of the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary and the Event organisation sub-committee. Please read this all the way to the end as there is quite a lot to digest. Voting on the Billing Options The voting and feedback from the two Billing options has been received and of those clubs who responded

  31. It looks like the new management team have cottoned on to the fact that having some free (to the residents) onsite variety shows, like car clubs, is a really good differentiator for them compared to their, at least two, competitors in the area, one of similar size. Its win win for them as they make money on them as well. I suspect they got some pretty nasty feedback from their residents the year all the shows disappeared.

  32. Iโ€™m the same due to ongoing health issues and not working at present I canโ€™t connit this early, it was a day before mh that I fealt well enough to attend this year itโ€™s gutting that the one show a year Iโ€™ve always looked forward to looks like a no go for me next year, maybe a campsite near retro for the night before as a get together like previous years to get me fix of Steffi banter is called for ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘

  34. i can see the benefits of billing, its just like facebook, its a destination site regardless of car stuff going on. you coud say billing is great for people who have to go to a car show that don't like car shows. ๐Ÿ˜€ MH felt more close knit, like a festival.

  35. Right thanks for clearing that up John. I had heard rumours that they approached us not the other way round. Thats the old chinese whispers at work then. What was so wrong with MH? I thought most people seemed happy with the progress of changes at the new site. To reiterate Paul's comments though, you are the man for the reps job. I appreciate its not always easy though, but you have my full support in whatever decisions you make on the clubs behalf.

  36. yeah to me billing was becoming a unsafe place , After the last year at Billing is it really safe for anyone ! People who live on the site drinking driving crashing their cars. Speeding all day and night. Pikey kids walking into tents day and night stealing what ever they can get there hands . Saturday night half the ladys toilets flooded and closed. for me its a big step back. Ma

  37. Let me add my thanks to those involved from the Club for their efforts in organising this. I enjoyed the event and the laid back atmosphere. Had a good trip back, avoiding the lower section of the M1, the old LX never missing a beat. Ian.

  41. I had the same problem about 8 years ago on my 130, filter was blocked with what looked like slime but no rust. I managed to get a new one from our local Vauxhall dealer, washed tank out in situ with Meths fitted new filter and away it went.

  42. Hi all im Adam and this is my first Cavalier i bought at the weekend and im looking to get all the rust sorted over the summer and get it looking how it would have been back in the 80s. i have considered modifying it but i think i would just be ruining it. it drives beautifully and is very comfortable, my parents had one back in the 90s almost exactly the same apart from being a hatchback. opinions and idea will be greatly received and ill start a thread to show progress.
