nice looking cav...I do like that grille... it's the same as the Ascona GT one isn't it? Is it specific to the CD?
  2. wow is that how it works? When i first saw the new pricing I thought "Great I may camp this year", thinking it would only cost me and the wife around £15 for the saturday, sat night, and the show day ... but if it's as you say it is then it's gonna cost a fair bit more...

    Not so newbie

That's pretty much the same as mine... although yours looks much cleaner
  4. I meant to comment on this earlier on, but forgot to... well I actually thought I did comment but I guess not...I probably fluffed the posting somehow, it's not unheard of, pilot error an' all that Anyway, as far as the stand goes, great welcome, nice chat with 'Newbody' (right?), I'm useless with names, and thankyou to 'GreyDJ' (right?) for the parts, that was an unexpected bonus . And the club had the right Idea when it comes to positioning the cars, they were all facing out to the main thoroughfare, with the camping and club social area to the back, made it easy to look at the cars without infringing on the privacy of the club members tents. It was a shame some of the other clubs in attendance couldn't manage this, as their stands looked more like they were showing the cars to themselves rather than other show goers. I still can't stand the bunting they insist on roping the cars off with, some stands it was difficult to find the entrance to the stand so we just wandered past without 'going in', but it's been like that since MH so i'm getting used to the 'guessing game' of spot the entrance. One club even had the 'entrance' in-between the tents so it was like walking into someone's house un-invited... we skipped that one . I also didn't spot the bedfords until it was time to go, and there was only about 4 of them? Not much of a show for the 50th anniversary eh, when I took mine down to billing 2015 for our wedding we had a line up of about 10 . Also the entrance was badly signposted on the outside, and badly marshalled on the inside, I had to ask a few people we trundled past where the rest of the cavs were as the map wasn't very clear and the corresponding 'internal' roads were non-existant virtually. Toilets? well... everyone in our family has learned to levitate since MH so it wasn't a problem, but I do miss the Billing toilet/shower blocks . I liked the autojumble, mainly because I managed to find a pair of mk1 ascona/cav window regulator handles for a fiver, ebay wanted me to pay £11 plus £stupid postage for one. I now have matching window winders. . . it's the little things that count right? As for the rest of the 'jumble, I thought it was good, plenty of variety, even some Viva bits which made a pleasant change, although I was a bit annoyed as for all the years I have ran Viva's the autojumble has been severely lacking in HB bits.. now I don't have one all the traders have stocked up...typical. So all in all....this show needs better toilets, less silly ropes with flags on, but more thought to the layout in regards to where you can drive to get to your car's stand. A better layout in general, and maybe some 'public' to make the show less 'quiet'... it was a very closed shop and people kept to themselves mostly. In all fairness we weren't there long as we had another show to attend ( which was fantastic by the way, I'd suggest popping over to the Baston show next year ( which confusingly wasn't it Baston but at Grimsthorpe Castle), it was well worth the mad dash back home to attend, even if we did miss the opportunity to show off the car and had to park with the moderns) but in my view, Sywell wasn't too bad for a first effort, so if the VBOA stop messing venues around and stay there they could probably make it a good show. I'm sure I have more to say but I've waffled on far too much now...
  5. I decided wash all the carpets, I emptied the boot of stuff, took out the carpet and it does indeed fit in the washing machine After setting it off on 'quick wash' I went back to the car to strip out the carpets in the front, I opened the door and immediately noticed the smell had gone, it was just the boot carpet after all... I dried it in the sun and re-fitted it, hopefully that has done the trick...oh and sorry to hijack your thread with tales of smelly carpets

Ahh no worries i'm sure i'll find some somewhere . . . very nice looking Cavalier though mate, I like the Calibre front bumper treatment, I did the same to one of mine a few years back, it was a mexico red hatch. It was on the MK2 stand back in Billing 2012, the year of the flood. . . I sold it soon after, the guy I sold it to is still on here I think.
  7. I will remove everything and give it a real good wash, also I will clean out everything under the carpets. I'm determined to get rid of the stink, it's probably some sort of sound deadening that's trapped the moisture and rotted.

welcome to the site.....by any chance do you still have the original wheels? Nice looking cav by the way
  9. Mine also has a damp smell... well it stinks of mould in the boot, I'm assuming it's mould, it actually stinks a bit like what some people use for a 'recreational smoke', with added swamp gas.... not very pleasant at all, I've washed and dried all the soft funishings but the smell remains, a further 'deep clean' is needed, to be honest, the smell is so unpleasant that if I can't get rid of it I will consider selling the car. I just cant abide 'that' smell I have no idea why someone would go to the trouble of drilling drain holes in the boot floor, the previous owner of mine just removed the grommets in the spare wheel well. I assume for the same reason of drainage...
  10. Mines 'orient blue' with an 'Anthracite' bottom half, not sure if it came from the factory with the bottom half painted grey but It suits it I think. I have a thread on here with pictures, click this link to view L13's cabby You say you might go to Newark autojumble, are you midlands based then?
  11. Ahh this would be why I can't find a set for my cabby either , plenty of overpriced 15's out there but zero 13's ...well I have one, so I will slowly collect a set as and when they come up i guess Oh and welcome to the club Corsadad, I too have recently purchased a cabby and am slowly sorting out it's little niggles whilst using it
  12. If i still have a cav by then i definately will :)
  13. ok yeah i see your point(s) like i said I am a bit of a 'pariah' at my own club, I stay with them because, again like i said, I change my cars often, and joining a different club every time i change my car gets expensive. I did see people at their cars, but i didn't approach to chat simply because i didn't want to butt in billing overall was good, I enjoyed it . . . but i don't agree with what frisco said about it not being a recruitment drive, isn't that the point of shows? To show off the cars yes, but also to attract new members? I remember being at billing with the viva club in the late 90's, we used to go around the field and the car park viva spotting and sticking flyers on any viva that wasn't on our stand, one year we got an extra 5 to bring their cars to our stand. Although what you said about what the manta club had going on seems a bit over the top, but they are a strange bunch after all Anyway billing was good, i kinda hope its there again next year as it is tradition....but Pbo has a good showground and is soooo easy to get to anyway(again) i hope i haven't trodden on any toes ( as usual)
  14. hi...i'm not a paid up member, simply because i change my cars on a whim, i could be driving an astra next week. But i agree with the 'facebook is killing forums' sentiment. I belong to many car forums on the web, they go through phases of high usage and low usage. This one seems to go slow quite a bit, or it's the same core members chatting, it's the same with the VODC, of which i am a fully paid up member, although sometimes i ask myself why as the content seems to be mainly questions about dash lights on an insignia, but i have a few good friends on there. Anyway ...billing, I came to look at your stand, some fantastic cars on there, but seemingly very spaced out , there was a large area bereft of cars, but no actual focal point for anyone to come and chat, like a trestle set up with banners and a couple of members in attendance handing out flyers and such like. The viva club does this, and so does the cav and chevette group. It promotes the club well, I did see your bbq which is impressive, but the people didn't seem approachable to chat to, seemed like a private party. So we walked on by... Hey it's not criticism really, I belong to the VODC, who did have a marquee, and a desk.... but was so totally closed off to the public that it looked like a private tent! And, even though i'm a paid up member, no one came to speak to me to welcome me to the stand or to show me where to place my cav. I ended up catching the eye of my mate in the club who told me to stick it anywhere as thats what he did as there was no organisation. I am a bit of a 'pariah' within my club as i do get outspoken about things i feel passionate about, but the only other member of my club who spoke to me all day was the one i have/had(?) an active disagreement with, he actually came and sat and chatted with us... which was strange but nice. I didn't even get asked to take my cav round the show circle, and i consider my cav to be a pretty nice example. Anyway, i've gone 'off point', billing was ok this year, but not as great as it could have been, theres a rumour about peterborough show ground for next year, which is a great place and so easily accessible, i would recommend that. Facebook should have an 'introduction to the club page' i guess, but anything posted should be to direct to the club site, as the content on there sometimes is a bit erm 'colourful' and some should be taken with a pinch of salt. The VODC has a club page on FBK (actually two, i dont think they can work out which one is the official one) but it has very little content most ofthe time, it just directs to the forum, which i think is how it should be. Facebook is killing the internet, it is a behemoth that should be put down.... anyway, thats my 2p worth :)
  15. so how do i become a member again? and how much is it? cheers
  16. Hi, i've been a member on here twice (i think) before, as Lord13... (Any chance of merging my accounts together or just renaming this one as 'Lord13'? doesn't really matter i guess, it's a stupid name anyway, i just use it on every forum) anyway like i said, I've been here before... once with a red L hatch and again with a mexico red GL hatch Here it is again at Billing 2012 ( this time shamelessly fitted with a calibre front bumper) I've tried to access my old accounts but i have no clue to the passwords or have any access to my old email addresses, I did email admin with the issue, but no reply Although to be honest, i've read through some of my old posts and think I come across as a bit bit of a nob :/ which I'm sure I'm not . . . hopefully :/ Anyway, I have now bought Dawn's old hatch 'Bolly' , I've posted up some pictures on your facebook page and had some good replies and welcomes etc etc, so I decided to get the rest of the recent pics up on here .. so here we go,
