So I finally had the chance to get my hands back on a Ascona C again, which I had as my first car at 19 - this time it wont really be used as a daily driver, as the winters up here in Scandinavia are loong and the main roads around the larger cities are salted almost every day when its minus Celsius (the season for classic "veteran" cars is typically very late April to early October), but this will be more intended for tinkering and summer joyrides. The car itself is a fairly standard 1984 1.6S GL (40 y.o this month hooray), 90bhp thereabouts, in the CC form - which spent the majority of its life up in the dry, cold mountains so the rust is minimal as far as Mid Norway goes - tho it probably got maneuvered across a mailbox or a badger sometime in its life so a new front panel and wing will be fitted in 2025 (oh and a new wing mirror will be installed as well - shoutout to Ebay). Got MOT'd with zero faults this summer so that was a pleasant surprise 😎 Further goals for next year includes refurbishing the carburettor as it seems to operate a little sluggish in cold weather - getting the cassette player back in shape would also be mint. Briefly about the owner: Father of two girls, IT consultant, big 80s aficionado, technical skill level: eager learner 😆 -

I would be very interested if you have any photos/vids/documents or anything abot the old girl from my fb post https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=a32ltm Orginally registered to Vauxhall Motors Car Roll Plan on the 30/8/1983. I had been told that this was a ex press car, which i guess this supports It was then transferred in May 1984 to someone in Coventry who owned her for 3.5 years. Then the 3rd owner had the car from October 1987 to July 2015. I assume one of these was bought from the trader George Cox Cars The 4th Owner had the car for 7 years until 2022 and then she has changed hands 7 times in the last 2 years. -
I have a feeling this is a cav I saved from a garage with Kev back in 2006/7/8 era. The number plate is sitting with me. Where was the car from originally? Great you have this one saved!

Not yet - need to swap out the exhaust and get the timing belt done before doing the london run - she will attact enough attention in rush hour without the sound of the exhaust. Just bought sills and arches so i can get her MOT ready -
@Charlie Cavalier How is the car? Is it doing the grind into London?

The camping is expensive for what you get, I think if you pay to camp you shouldn't then have to pay for the show on top (it needs to be an all in price, whatever that is). I also think if you are bringing a car to show on the stand, entry should be subsidised as you are the reason the public are paying to come in. This would boost people to actually bring a show'd car too from the club (if its less). Maybe the VBOA could pay back per car based on tickets sold......promoting more folks to go......just thinking out loud now. Needed a wash station for plates etc for campers. The entertainment band/singer in the bar was shite on Saturday night.....I mean really bad, I could sing better. If it wasn't free, get rid. Also, I missed Paul wearing an England rugby shirt......maybe he in that, should be the clubs mascot Maybe it should be held at a campsite that caters for campers....I dunno, I hear Billing has a good one Biggest awesome ness was the bar b q.....big thanks to Ivan and Clara for the efforts bringing that, cooking on and cleaning it all.....really made the weekend. This needs to happen every year. Be good to try and turn it into a party like the old days, but 1 sywell at a time

Didn't go (as Greg keeps reminding me) but I will admit the cost did put me off coming up for one night

I'd say overall the show was great, a huge improvement on the previous years. There'll always be room for improvement but we enjoyed the weekend. Shower and toilet facilities were better although still not perfect; some showers were randomly cold regardless of when you went. Lighting again were better but still not perfect; there was very little down our end. Whatever they did to bring new traders to the autojumble worked great, best it has been in years by a long way. Their biggest issue with the whole thing is pricing. It's expensive to go, it's expensive to camp and the food vendors were expensive. That's our general thoughts.
