  1. Hi i work with Magpie and thought i'd have a look...! Had a hand in spraying a caliber not so long back with Magpie ! Used to work on vauxhalls in the eighties at Anna valley..... Made me feel young again ! Ha ha

    That'll be this one then ;D ;D ;D

  2. Recipe

    1x novice

    1x piece of wire

    1x dead ecu

dont mess about with things by shorting out pins one mistake you could end up putting 12v down an ecu or actuator earth then you will be worse off than you are now

True but if you buy a fault finder that is what the instructions tell you to do? and the adaptor for vauxhall is a bit of wire with the pins on the end to fit in the plug :(

  3. Hi mate and welcome!!!

This should help you! ;) ;)

Engine ECU fault codes  2.0 8v, 16v, Ecotech, Turbo, V6

    Information from Bob Rawle

Dis-engage the diagnostics plug from its socket.

This is positioned at the rear of the engine bay on the passengers side on cavalier/calibra’s, on the astra3 it’s in the fusebox, and on vectra’s around the handbrake and omega on the panel by the fusebox.

    It has 10 pins.

Short pins A & B to read the engine ecu codes. Brown & Brown/yellow

16 pin connectors, On the Vectra / Omega short pins 4 & 6

Start the engine, management warning light will start to flash as follows.

The code 12 is first flashed three times, this is a marker.

If a code is stored it is then flashed three times.

The code 12 is then flashed three times, this is a separator.

If a 2nd code is stored it is then flashed three times or the first code is repeated.

The code 12 is then flashed three times, this is a separator.

    etc

Once all codes have been displayed then stop engine and remove wire.

To clear codes you should disconnect the battery for a minimum of

10 minutes and then re-connect. This also has the effect of resetting

the ECU parameters to their defaults and forces the adaptive learning

circuits to start again. Within approx. 200 miles the ECU will have

    adapted.

  4. Yes, well, it's not every day you get given a J reg 1.8 L cav with only 31 K on the Clock, by your Father.  5 Years on it's up to 72K.

Which is why she's so protective of it, and why she nearly killed me after I filled it with diesel on Sunday Evening.

OOOOPPPPSSSSS!!!! :Ha  You were popular then!!?

My mum used to have a 1.8L mk3, had it from around 30k got rid of it at 170k still going!! (and VERY well to as Chutney will vouch! I used to kill SRis in it (on L plates!!! :Ha :Ha :Ha :Ha :Ha :Ha))

  5.  My wife's got a mk3 and it's a fine car.

A little too comfortable and a bit slow for my liking, and I think it might benefit from a new carb (1992 1.8 if anyone has a new one just lying around), but a massive boot.   Most people here have probabally had or even have a mk3.

Yeah what I mean is that its called "MK[glow=red,2,300]2[/glow]cav.com"

and yeah a MK3 is a very good car all round and I have had several as daily drivers and probabally always will have!!!!

this will be my DD for this winter!

  6. When we say WE what do we mean ?  Was one or  is one connected with General Motors in one way or another ?

He worked there when the nova sports were still being sold, so he would have built some in his time at the dealers! I'm sure Chutney will explain a bit more in depth than me! :Ha

  7. mine's a 4 speed, though when you look on the bell housing there's a little diagram of gear positions which goes up to 5... don't know if it's a universal housing or what.

120bhp?! i've no idea what she's making now but i'd be interested in some upgrading... someone said a 1.3 nova SR would fit? as far as brakes and suspension go i don't really know what i'm on about with cars... can anyone suggest suspension packs and where i can get them?

i can't believe it's that rare, i assumed there'd be loads of the small engines. that's ace!!

If you mean the engine from a 1.3 SR Nova then if yours has the pierburg carb then it is the same as the SR! ;) ;)

  8. Hi.

    Rarer than a Calibre !!

The thing that interests me about 1.3's is the potential to bring them up to Nova Rally Car Spec.  Was that about 120 BHP ?  What I'm really saying is : Make sure you look on Nova sites as well, because PARTS for sale may be more forthcoming.

That said, brakes and suspension upgrades just as valid.  I assume it's got a 4 Speed ?  I wonder if a 5 speed can be made to fit ?

    Most likley a 5 speed as I had a D reg 87 Black 1.3L Saloon and that was a 5 speed ;)
