  1. That's a great looking car and very rare now. I use footman James for insurance on a policy with 3 old Vauxhalls and I am happy with them.

Enjoy your car when you get it and welcome.

Donor cars are ace! Got a Vectra C SRi donor in the garage right now mostly nearly stripped!

They certainly are. Going to start swapping bits over and get the white one as tidy as possible.

  3. Good info there wasn't aware of that.

Its probably the worst car I've ever driven tbh and although it has mot until October I won't be driving it anywhere.

This is the better of the two repairs to the arches

    image.thumb.png.de1d3e6135957afa0388451d

It's a shame that it's been badly repaired as its a good colour and according to owners club there's only 3 H plate 8v's with current mot left. Had it been left alone it may have been salvageable but I'm not entertaining that idea and as you say a donor is no bad thing ?

  4. Yeah a pair of early Calibra's. The black one is an 8v and unfortunately is fairly rotten. Previous owner has had a go at sills and arches but it's a pretty poor repair - including gaffer tape and is only good for spares.

Its got all the bits I need for the white one so that's what it will be used for.

  5. Yes my reliable modern car let me down but in its defence it has fixed itself.

As for the Calibra that is getting there but I'm going to have to do a bit of work to get the hand brake working due to the way the shoes and other bits are mounted.

  6. Thanks chaps.

Get it bought Matt. I had to use mine yesterday to get to work as my daily car wouldn't rev past idle when I went out in the morning.

Calibra got a good wash and a few new bits of trim fitted for its efforts ?

  7. GreyDJ:  Manual just arrived. Thanks very much as said it's appreciated :)

Replaced front brakes yesterday. One disc was 256mm and other was 240mm ??? I know the back brakes are just as shonky so can't wait to see what else I find on this car :)

  8. GreyDJ:  That's very kind of you and is much appreciated. If I make it to Billing I will see you ok for a drink :)

Greg:  Cheers mate. I need this car like a hole in the head but then again I'm sure with how many Vauxhall's you have you know what I mean.

Matt:  Do you want them emailed?

  9. GreyDJ:. That's exactly the info I was after thank you :). If you have a spare manual yeah I'd be interested. Just let me know what it costs.

Matt:. I sent you text with photos etc.

Steven:. I'll update occasionally as I do a few bits to the car. I'll also get some photos of the brakes when I change them as they are a bit special :)

    Still, discs/pads are pretty cheap.

    Sounds a really good purchase.

That's the thing I was thinking earlier. Who would bodge brakes when you can pick the parts up so cheaply?

You could actually save me a headache if you don't mind John. The boot lock is temperamental and I know it works as previous owner opened it but I don't have the knack. Can you tell me how the lock positions work?  I assume it's locked with key vertical and it turns clockwise and presses in to release?

  11. Yeah passenger disc looks completely different. Couldn't get Vauxhall alloy on as centre of disc was too broad in diameter. Cars been in the hands of a top notch bodger at some point.

Wont be a daily mate I prefer modern comforts and need reliable transport for work.  I'll get it running right and looking better and see what I want to do from there.   How's the mk2 hunt going?  I noticed an early spec beige cavalier for sale on Facebook earlier?

  12. Still a few autos around for not a lot of money.

Had a look at the brakes earlier and they are a work of art. Rear discs are smaller than they should be and have been red rilled, badly, to fit. Front discs are not a matching pair. Passenger one I'm not even sure is from a Vauxhall.

Just as well I have a sense of humour :)

Not a fan of calibra's sorry  Sal but love your dedication ?

Fair comment mate. I've always had a soft spot for them. Used one as a daily about 15 years ago.

Very nice Sal. A Calibra has been on my list for a while now. Was it pricey?

Cheap as chips Matt. Seller almost gave it to me as only other interest he had was from guys wanting to break it.  It's got about 4 months mot and shouldn't be too much work for next one.

I had a white one a few years ago, was a v6 but the previous owner couldnt scrap it as the body was perfect, so he put a xe in it, was a nice motor but was only a stop gap for me.

The body isn't too bad on this one too. Not by any means perfect but a bit of work will see it good again and I reckon it's still got some miles left in it.

  14. Thanks for the encouragement chaps :)

I'll maybe update this as I go since a few folks are interested in Calibra's. I don't intend going too in depth with this car. Running well and looking presentable will do and getting the mk2 sorted will be the main focus.

  15. I'll have a look through the wheels I've got knocking around. I think I have what are the correct 5 spoke alloys for this model but I'll let you know about the cesaro's as they would be a good option.

  16. Hi john it's a 2.0 on an L plate and is the earlier front without "V" grill. I thought all the earlier 16v's were XE's but this one's an ecotec so must be one of the first with the XEV?

I had to repair a split fuel pipe before I set off and it had a bit of a misfire under load which improved after a few miles.  Needs a good service, hand brake cable seems not to be attached to lever and I need to trace oil leak.

Overall it's a bit rough but it's mostly all there and hasn't been messed around with too much.

The original lights are in boot and will be fitted in place of the LED's

    image.thumb.jpeg.0b93b07efb301007157cd42

Dodgy wheels will be replaced with a good set of Vauxhall wheels

    image.thumb.jpeg.105138fb40b376749a1c502

Couple marks at front and lights may be a bit dullimage.thumb.jpeg.ba7dd895f5074238f04531a

Nice blue gaiters are heading for bin

    image.thumb.jpeg.b59f4c6869add4ad4779046

interior is fairly clean although headlining needs stuck again in a few places.

    image.jpeg

It was local and cheap so it's worth sorting out what it needs and I'll find some use for it.

  17. Just about to go and collect this old clunker

    image.thumb.png.b20c58156bf597784dd22032

Its a bit rough, has iffy brakes, and leaks fuel and oil. Perfect :)

ill stick up a few more photos when I get it home if anyone is interested.

    Hi Guys,

I have just bought a Cavalier from Matt O`sri and picking up next week. I live in Hamilton so if any of you guys are about I would love to meet up and go for a spin??

You didn't buy that red piece of junk from Matt the Modder did you?  ??. (Sorry Matt ?). I'm sure you'll be delighted with the car when you collect it. Matt has looked after it very well and there won't be many chances to own an original car like that very often.

Im not too far away from Hamilton and there's a few other guys within reasonable distance also. My car is currently sorn but should be back on the road in summer if I get a chance to sort out a few minor issues so I'll no doubt see you around.

There is a very nice silver Cavalier cabriolet in one of the Hamilton clubs. It was on display in the town centre in the summer last year but the owner isn't on here as far as I know.

  19. It takes a signal off coil to shouldn't be affected by the fuel set up.

As your not sure if it worked previously it's worth checking wiring. I'm sure it's a green wire which you'll find on the multiplug at coil. If you pop the clocks out you can check it's also connected to the clocks as it's just a spade fit that may have come off.
