  1. I have just looked in an early Haynes manual covering the 1.3, 1.6 and 1.8 and the picture shows a jack, a screwdriver and a wheel brace. In later models including 2.0 variants the above i assume also applies as my kit which was untouched when i had the car.

  2. Rust, Rust, Rust they rust everywhere sills, rear arches and lower rear quarters, around the petrol filler, rear spring mountings, front floor/bulkhead area ( difficult to find without lifting carpets and underlay ) If the car has a sunroof  look for rot in the roof its easy to spot, lower front wings, front and rear wheel housings around suspension mounting areas, front cross member and both front and rear valences, door bottoms to name a few areas. Its simpler to just suspect ALL areas of metal. Yours with only 52k may not be to bad. As for value i am guessing a couple of grand but i would not swear to that.

Don,t think i would try to start it without changing the timing belt, i know the 2.0 litre is a safe engine valves and pistons don,t meet when the belt goes but not sure about the 1.8. Brakes obviously will require checking etc etc.

In my opinion though these Vauxhall cars rust no more than many 80,s cars. I cannot speak from practical experience as my 130 was only 5 years old when i bought it covered in Waxoyl and had no rust but many on here have restored cars and will have experience on these issues.

There is a dam good ongoing project on here now restoring a 1.8 which may give you ideas and solutions.

  3. There is a genuine gm rear wing on ebay at the moment for £175, think they are quite a bit more from suppliers if you can find one. There is also a dealer on ebay selling pricey nos gm panels and i would imagine that repair sections are available. There are loads of guys on here that have done repairs to bodywork so advice will be available,  including a current major restoration which will provide very valuable information on restoration etc.

I bought mine in 1994 and spent a week plus cleaning checking and waxoyling  everything removing everything including suspension ( this i still do every few years ) so body wise apart from a new rear wing in 1994 thanks to white van man, a complete external professional repaint last year and the usual small hole in drivers footwell thanks to me not realising the section was tripple skinned would be boring to anyone enjoying a project.

  4. Ah same model and colour as my 130, i just love Carmine red 130 saloons. Don,t know how many carmine red saloons are left. Have you got much paperwork with it? From the photos it does not look to bad at all. Whats it like mechanically and trim wise?

  5. I had the same problem about 8 years ago on my 130, filter was blocked with what looked like slime but no rust. I managed to get a new one from our local Vauxhall dealer, washed tank out in situ with Meths fitted new filter and away it went.

  6. My first and only Cav which i still have is my Mk2 SRI 130 saloon in red. I was looking for a late spec Escort RS Turbo or Astra GTE 16V ,always liked the SRI / 130 saloons but gave up looking as even in 1994 there were many rusty and thrashed boy racer ones around. Found my ideal car and could not believe my luck when i saw it, mint, every bill including original receipt, brochures, low mileage, mature owner etc, love at first site ( dont tell the wife ) and i knew it was going to be a keeper. Paid £3495 cash for it, well pleased as i had a budget of 5K for a car

  7. That,s one fine looking motor a lot of time must have gone into making it look so good.  I would think not many survive in Russia due to the bad weather, do they cover the roads with salt and grit like they do over here when we have frost or snow ?

How is the parts availability in Russia ? Many parts are rare over here mainly trim etc and prices have risen the last few years, i would imagine that parts must be very hard for you to find and you probably have to buy from other countries.

  8. Always liked the Calibra, have fond memories of being a passenger in a new Turbo driven by a then work colleague chasing and sticking with ease to a Sapphire Cosworth, happy days. If i remember he sold his Astra GTE 16V and had a large eye watering bank loan to buy it but it sure did shift.

  9. Greetings to sunny Halifax and welcome to the site  ( my ancestral family come from Halifax and Cornholme ) there is a load of useful information and experience on here probably covering all Cav issues and problems. I had my 130 saloon in 1994 as a daily whilst running various MG, Triumph TR and Sunbeam 2 seaters. Like you i decided on the 130 as a more modern classic although at that time most MK2 Cavs were still mostly cheap boy racer bangers or tradesmans working cars as in the case of estates.

  10. They look good and to be honest i would not have noticed they were slightly larger if you had not mentioned it.

I think many people had 130,s years ago as they were  cheap then, heading towards banger ststus and were reaonably fast for the outlay. Never saw that many in junk yards though but any i did i relieved them of the fogs and ecu plus any other general cav items for my 130.

  11. Sometimes money does not come into the equation, i would not sell the 130 saloon for £5,000 and have last year been offered £4000 which i think? was a genuine offer.

My personal value is around the 4k mark condition "A" NOT concours for a 130 with full history all bills etc, others may think 3k.

What value do you put on Dazys 130 hatch? again i would say about 7k poss more again just my opinion.

As someone has stated they are worth only what someone is prepared to pay.

  12. Was hoping to come down Sat or Sun ( not in the 130 ) but i have to provide Technical Chemical support at work if required ( which means i have to be within 30 mins of the site ) And with the crazy high rate they pay contractors like me for cover i cannot afford to turn it down being skint at the mo.

  13. Interesting, i built a Dolomite Sprint (apart from spraying) from a new B/L shell in the late 1980,s and the shell came with all wings, doors, bonnet and boot fitted. I have a couple of new ( not for sale ) Saloon rear doors that my father in law saved at the last minute from a new shell that had been cut up for scrap and he told me it came to the customer complete with all panels, doors etc fitted. Have you removed the doors etc or did it come without these panels?
