  1. welcome to the site lets hope we get some good weather so you can drive her with the top down  ;D ;D ;D your one lucky chap having 2 Mk1 Astra's especially a gte Ive got a few gte spares stashed away along with my spares for the ascona

  2. welcome to mk2 cav base model ownership a least you have got 2 door mirrors on your cav mine's only got one on the right hand door no clock and only one rear foglight a big well done for firstly rescuing a low spec mk2 cav as these models tend to get overlooked in favor of the higher spec models and secondly for taking on one with accident damage which would have put alot of people off buying it good luck with your project

  3. Thanks Magpie.  Your reply prompted me to have a grub around the website and hey presto I am a member now  ;D

    Katherine

now you have joined up all we have to do is kit you out with a Mk2 cavalier there's one one ebay its a early 1.3 l hatch in red and it would make a nice little starter project its taxed until April and has mot until Jan 2010 so you can drive it while restoring buy it now £350 or best offer i reckon £250 cash and its yours
  4. then i think we can forget about pistons/rings and rebore just replace the head gasket with a good quality one and bobs your uncle and don't forget to use new head bolts unbolt the exhaust manifold but leave the inlet manifold attatched as it gives you somthing to handle the head with but watch out for the rocker arm thrust pads falling off the top of the valve springs when you refit the camshaft

  5. do the head gasket mate its only a 3 to 4 hour job depending on how experienced you are at working on engines an engine swap would take a lot longer plus it would lose its originality the extra power would be partly offset by the increase in weight and the fuel consumption would be roughly the same as it is now

1.6 Mk2 cav engines are very hard to get now the other option would be a small block sv 1600 out of an early Mk3 cav but even these are getting hard to find spending an hour reading up from the Haynes workshop manual will save you time in the long run

  6. you lucky blighter its a lovely looking cav i do hope that the mods you have listed are the only ones you are doing to her original early spec GL's are like rocking horse poo to find now i hope to see her at billing this year top marks to you for getting this one

  7. hi bruce welcome to the mk2 cav site the answer to if you old sri is still on the road ive done a check on the dvla website and it's not looking good her last tax disc ran out on 31/1/1995 so the chances of her still surviving are very slim
