My first cav was a white saloon on a d reg. Bought it of a neighbour for £70 as an mot failure. Called in a couple of favours and it was soon mot'd. Needed a few bits doing but mainly an exhaust. took it to my local tyre and exhaust place who despite having all the different versions in stock couldn't make an exhaust fit of the peg but did a cut and shut for me. Turned out to be a petrol car converted to diesel....and the vin tags on the slam panel were missing as well. Kept it a few months and sold it on.

Love it mate. I'll get some pics of mine this weekend for you. The diesels are slow and unrefined but i can't help but like it. My mate Jase who i bought it off said the same...you really shouldnt like this but somehow you will. He was right. Its slow , it rattles, it smokes bit you know what? Its honest about what it is....and thats what i love.

Thanks for that Andy, and I fully agree. I have recently started a new job working nights so weekend do get impacted a fair bit, but the positive to that it that i earn a bit more money, get these holiday things that people talk of, and actually get some time off in the week, although i currently still do my existing job on my rest days. I agree with your sentiments on Facebook, and it does attract a large number of non genuine enthusiasts, probably cos its free unlike the forum. I have been on the FB side a couple of times, but i have left it again, in preference to the club forum. One sage bit of advice Frisco gave me a long time back, if its pissing you off, walk away and take some time out! And thats exactly what i do.

Whats going on guys, is the forum dead now? Billing is classed as the major club event in the year, more so, this year was a very special anniversary being 35 years, and to date we have two pictures from Jimmycav. no other pictures, comments nothing...sad state of affairs to me
-
LOL, i kind of get that Ivan, hope you all had a bloody good time though. Did you get the 35 cars in the end? I hear some tit rolled a car on there as well? That wont help the VBOA's case.
-
Is that it for pictures of Billing? Come on guys, i was looking forward to seeing your cars on here as i didnt get there in person.
-
No pictures yet..

Not classic car fans Ken, more interested in ground rent on static caravans it seems. Possibly last Billing show and i still wont be there. Hope you all have a bloody ace time and that our club is well represented to keep the dream alive... oh and dont get too drunk!!

Hope you all have a fab time and manage to beat the 35 car record....i'll be thinking of you all and look forward to seeing the pictures on here. ( left the facebook group as it full of idiots). So please keep me updated on here guys.

Looks like this is going to be a very busy event! A lot of new faces and cars look set to descend on billing this year. I hope the weather gets onside and is good for you all.

so in other words, ive got circa 11 weeks to either get my rotbox roadworthy or buy another car if i want to make the big one in a mk2 cav???

Could we not write to the head office expressing concern to this change? If enough members from enough clubs hit the head office with letters of complaint/ concern, maybe the decision could be over ruled

Matt, beige betty was my old car and at the time i owned her was a solid and very original example. Unfortunately subsequent owners ripped the heart out of her originality and let her go to a sad state. Her new owner describes her as rough, which is really sad as she was in above average condition for her year when i had her. I think she could be brought back to her good old self with care and attention, of which you would be a perfect person to do so, but not at the price advertised, its way to high now. I sold that car in good faith to someone who promised to restore her at less than half the current asking price in totally original condition, not the way she sits today, but thats down to the greed of certain people rather than for the good of the car. I'll say no more on the matter, but good luck if you wish to take her on....i enjoyed my ownership a huge amount. and i think you would too mate....go for it!!

Fookin how much? get camping man! I ve camped there and it was unseasonably wet for the few hours that i was there, but i can whole heartedly recommend it. \Ive even slept in my van before now (against the rules by the way...as the van was french) so anything goes really. May even come this year and camp subject to the high tide.........in another french van funnily enough but that does at least have the decency to wear a vauxhall badge, rather fitting for the occasion i think.

Love the car, and more importantly the colour....that is friggin awesome. You are so lucky to own that so I hope you treasure it. I would love a green car!

I understand your situation as I was in a similar position myself. Nobody wanted to know my last estate car and I didn't have time to do it hence it sitting there and ultimately getting scrapped. Sadly these cars aren't trendy enough to be worth peoples time as they don't have a huge following or value...not say like a split windscreen vw camper van. You will just have to learn to do it yourself, mig welding isn't difficult to do, it just takes time to learn to do it neatly. Could you not enrole on a welding course at your local college? I did a car body repair course years ago just to learn the basics, one night a week for three hours.
I will be doing mine myself this time as that will be the only way to get it done.
