it wasn't any worse than changing a gearbox. i did need a few bits to suit. driveshafts, mounts, gear cables and shifter. the hardest to find was shafts. need to be from a mk5 astra 2.0 turbo NON vxr or similar mk2 zafira.
mine was running stage 1 and i have fitted the m32 from the vxr to mine at 60mph i can easily get 40mpg. its a great big car, its certainly packs a punch for a big car.
still dont know the cause of the failure but suspect blocked oil pick up. mine was better on fuel than yours, over 30mpg on the motorway sometimes 40mpg and always 28mpg pottering about.
well my plansfor it was to run it till my zafira was back on the road but as its quite a rare model i may hang onto it and try and tidy it up a bit. i'm a mechanic to trade so can do any repairs myself but advice isalways helpfull! as this is my first mk2, i've had 3 mk3's but the basics will be nearly the same for both i guess.
the last mk2 in my town was a calibre and that was when i was 14 and i'm now 30! i'll be the only 1 in a 20 mile radius i'm sure is that your cav in the pic? the blue 1? it looks very tidy mate
thanks guys. i'm planning on tidying her up as best i can for as little as possible. it was on ebay for 5 days i'm sure! anyway, once i get it home i'll get an mot done and see how things look. you never know i may just keep hold of this cav for a while! glad i can keep another 1 on the road. there aren't many where i stay!
well i've bought my first mk2 today and will collect it next weekend. its a 1.6 sr hatch and looks to be in not bad condition here it is http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200362298646 I have always liked the mk2 and at the moment i need transport while i save for a new engine for my zafira gsi, i melted 2 pistons:(
