  1. This has just come in from VBOA

Members have complained that hotel rooms are not available for the rescheduled Billing date of July 15-17 2016. I checked on-line reservations for the Premier Inn hotel which is on Crow Lane adjacent to the Billing site to find that the system currently only goes up to May 2016. I spoke to Premier Inn central reservations who said the hotel was fully booked that weekend but did not know why. They put me onto the Billing hotel who confirmed it was booked "as July is very busy with the GP, shows at Billing and Santa Pod". I explained that we were one of these shows and the GP was on the 10th. He checked some more and said that the rooms for that weekend were not booked, just "not released". In other words they are sitting on them until dates for events are clarified and they will no doubt formulate a pricing policy to take maximum advantage of the local situation. His advice was to check on-line reservations on a weekly basis as actually they had a "lot of rooms" - just not released yet!
He also said that Billing Aquadrome and other local venues give them a schedule of events so they can plan accordingly.
The FIA meeting to confirm the 2016 Grand Prix calendar is scheduled for next week.It is expeccted to rubber stamp the British GP for the 10th.

  2. I agree with the dissatisfaction expressed but sorry, there is nothing we can do about it.

As the British GP seemed to have settled on the same weekend the VBOA reasonably assumed it would continue like that, indeed there was a provisional list of dates released in July showing a 26 June date. It was only at a FIA meeting at the end of September that the date was changed. VBOA moved the event as we have experienced the effects of a clash in the past and we vowed not to let it happen again, as the A43 goes one way in then one way out on Sat/Sun (causing big diversions) and all the hotels and Billing increase their rates significantly.

  3. Billing next year was scheduled for the weekend of the 10th July. In their wisdom the FIA have set the British GP to be that weekend. So, to avoid the clash, the VBOA has moved to the following weekend, the 15/16/17 July.

The VBOA apologises to anyone who is already booked but feels that it has to move, based on past experience of rocketing hotel prices and chaos on the roads.

  4. Just put a members link up about buying Vx parts at Trade Club prices when at Billing.

Another reason for joining the Club. The discounts can be pretty good.

Bristol Street are open Friday and on Saturday 8.30 to 12.30 are are off the next roundabout down the A45 towards the M1.

To compare against the Autojumble, as an example 10-40 is £12 for 5l and our standard filter £3 ish inc VAT.

CORRECTION, 2nd exit  roundabout, A428 Bedford Road.

  5. Welcome to the madhouse mate, we are Mk2 mad round here!!!

New GM 130 decals are hens teeth.

Which side is the Q/L vent trim? How good does it have to be? On removal almost all break the top clip and are then held on with double sided tape.

    Where are you?

  6. Welcome to the site, you've come to the right place :)

Just from a superficial look from the photo, your CD looks better than many round here have started out with. You seem to have a good idea of what you are doing, so, whilst trying not to 'teach a grandmother...' the key areas are what are these like:

    - chassis legs by the spring and on top in the boot

    - inner wing around the petrol filler hole

    - front of front floors

    - rear of front splashbacks

    - front cross member

By the sound of it you are planning to create a '130 alike' from the CD. Do you still have the SEH and front roll bar from the 130? Is the 130 an auto?

I have turned a late auto CD into just that.

  7. The VBOA Committee Meeting held on April 6th requested that this event be held again later this year.

I am pleased to report that Vauxhall have said that they will support an event at the Heritage Centre in Luton on Sunday October 5th.

Extra loos and refreshments will again be available and club members can sell parts/memorabilia in the outer car park area on a "car boot" basis, at no cost.

  9. The 32nd VBOA Meeting at Billing is the biggest Vauxhall, Bedford and Opel show in the UK, hopefully as good as last year!

One of the effects of Billing now being owned by a 'proper' holiday company determined to make it a reliable family holiday destination is a reduction of bad behaviour on the site and significant capital investment. The latest investment has gone on automatic electronic sluice gates on the River Nene which have proved themselves over the past winter. The flooding of a couple of years ago is now unlikely to reoccur.

The site is just off the A45 and its address is Billing Aquadrome, Crow Lane, Great Billing, Northampton, NN3 9DA.

Whilst the show dates are Saturday July 12th and Sunday July 13th 2014 we have members who turn up from Thursday and leave on Monday. Members who show a car on our stand will receive a 'Billing 2014' windscreen sticker.

The cost is the same again, with a pre-booked VBOA rally rate for non-electric pitches, which applies to the Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday night (leave by 11.00 Monday) of £15. Extra nights outside those days are £20.This discounted rate is for one vehicle with a maximum of four occupants. Extra vehicles that do not leave the site are £10 for the visit, if they leave they are charged at £10 per day.

Pre-booking also allows entry to the Leisure Centre swimming pool at half price, £2.50 and various special meal prices in the Leisure Centre.

To pre-book call 01604 408181 (based at Billing), select option 2 (or 01524 781453 only if you have to - national booking centre) and quote the VBOA booking code - VBOA2014. If they ask, tell them you will be in Shellduck Meadow 1

BOOKINGS NOW AT FULL RATE (Do this BEFORE the 5th July as bookings after that date will be at the full rate). Please keep this booking reference to Club members only.

Those coming for just a day and not staying overnight will be charged £10 per vehicle, with up to 4 occupants, on the gate with no pre-booking.

More investment has gone into the shower block next to the auto jumble which has been demolished and rebuilt (doubled in size) with toilets and 28 showers (14 male, 14 female). All will be open and serviced 24 hours a day.

The enhanced Billing Security team plus a dedicated VBOA dog handler will provide security and apply an 11.00pm site curfew/excess noise rule. Chinese lanterns are not permitted, as these are a potential fire hazard.

There will be entertainment in the Leisure Centre on Saturday night.

Park management will attend the 9.00am VBOA rep briefing meetings on Saturday and Sunday morning to handle any complaints about facilities etc.

This should be a really good event, so get your names down in a post. Please do not modify the ‘who is coming when’ post. Mods will do that from your posts, just as we do with the ‘who has got what Cavalier’ thread.

Please keep this thread to booking only. Use the other Billing chat thread for chat!!!    http://www.mk2cav.com/index.php/topic,22098.0.html

As usual this is a formal club event so while everyone is welcome to drop by and join in only members who are paid up at the time of the event can show their cars on the stand.

  10. Latest publicity from VBOA

Sunday March 9th 2014 will see the 10th consecutive running of this ever popular VBOA Spring event. Once again it will be held at the Connexion Exhibition Centre in Ryton-on-Dunsmore. The central location and the wide range of parts, accessories, models, clothing and books dedicated to our marques makes this a must do event for buyers and sellers alike. Once again we are offering pitches at only £5. With trestle tables only a further £2 why not dig out those parts from the back of the shed and join the show?

Access for jumblers is from 7.00am and doors open to the public at 10.00am. The show closes at 2.00pm. Hot and cold food available all day so its a great place to shake off the winter blues and meet friends old and new.

Added to original post. Cheers John  :)

  11. Hope you don't mind Matt but I have added the following to your first post? Did it here rather than start a parallel thread.

If you have any parts to sell it is worth pointing out that a pitch plus table (inc entry for 2) is only £7. As the normal entry is £3 each the pitch is only costing £1.  Perhaps a Club pitch?
