  1. It still hasn't done 50,000 so I don't know how that fits in with practice. A 'short engine' might be an option but availability might be an issue.

I would not have thought that a 'short' engine (block and below) was needed as your problems, as described, are in the top end. The oil leaks, from experience, sound like rocker gasket and distributor end camshaft seal.

  2. You're right Dave, I have driven on studded tyres and on winter tyres now. But at least with unstudded winter tyres you have a chance of getting grip at the edges or middle of the road where there may still be snow.

My comments weren't aimed at you but Hammopower's neighbour who's drive was unlikely to be iced up and the Legacy have summer tyres.

Generally my experience with winter tyres is that, apart from ice and really steep hills, as long as there is some snow or slush only snow deeper than the ground clearance beats them.

Whilst a M&S open tread pattern helps it is the low temperature optimised rubber mix that is the real difference and not all M&S tyres have it. My Continental 820s have a nearly 'summer' looking pattern.

  3. Hi, and Welcome.

It might be a silly question but if you live in the USA and are going to import one of this type of car why did you buy a right hand drive Cavalier and not a left hand drive Ascona?

  4. Can someone get rid of the photo link that is causing this lockout message?

A user name and password are being requested by https://homedrive.ziggo.nl. The site says: "Webspace login voor hgorter@home.nl"

    OK, I've done it now.

Arnold, if you try and post pictures again please do not link to a site that requires authentication as it mucks the thread up.

  5. Use Calibra Turbo front seats, they tilt and, id you wire them up, they keep your bum warm, which could be useful in our weather  ;D

Not sure if they go straight in, they would if yours were not convertibles but I don't know if your floorpan changed when the others did.

  6. Suggest if it has not got it you get some proper security on it. They are stupidly easy to nick and the last thing you will want once it is sorted is for it to disappear.

It will take a bigger battery than you can afford!!!

By the way, as well as joining this Club  ;D hint,

you should also join at www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co.uk another really friendly site which, when you join gets you a Halfords trade card, which can save you a lot of money (plugs half price!), starting with that battery!

  7. No external changes unless the rear track was wider.

It could be done with a Mk3 GSi floorpan giving the IRS and 4x4 rear axle or perhaps with a Carlton rear axle in the place of the rear beam plus a few taps to the tunnel!.

  8. The welcome here might wear a little thin if the SEH you want came from the 'holy grail' a MK2 130. Much better for your purposes would be an early Mk3 SRi engine which was also an SEH. More of them out there so probably cheaper and easier to find too.
