Smart install from the photo. Did you do it? Why off the road for so long? My questions were after info as to whether it could be a vacuum build up in the tank restricting fuel supply when used for a while. Or when starting, if the pressure in the petrol header manifold had dropped and needed some pump action to get it up before it would fire. I have an XE'd Mk3.

Have you tried running it with the petrol cap off, to check the tank breather is clear? On starting, do you turn it on, wait a mo, then start or go for it straight off?

Welcome to the site. Its a bit slow around here. Where are you and how about a few more pictures? Good looking car. Fault sounds heat related, something expanding and letting air in. Are the vacuum hoses solid and the inlet manifold OK? No air leak between the AFM and the throttle body?

Heated seat. Under the rotary light switch there are two switches plus a blanking plate. That unused position is for the heated seat switch. I have it fitted and used for another purpose, it needs a relay.

Injection cars have two 8mm fuel pipes, flow and return, as the whole system is pressurised. Use modern plastic pipe. There is a 14mm flexi feed pipe from tank to pump. But, if I was you I would be putting in a late Vectra A tank with internal pump. Much simpler pipework and should be easier to find but must be a 2.0 pump not 1.8. Needs an access hole in the floorpan under the rear seat (round plastic cover needed too) and a pump electrical connector there. If you are going to use E10 petrol seal the inside of the tank before it goes in and use E10 safe pipework (no steel). Another reason for the Vectra tank is the petrol gauge sender. Mk2 injection versions are hens teeth selling, if you can get one, for £150+ or 180 Euro out of Germany.

Yes, 20SEH is the GM name for the engine, it is in the SRi 130 here, as well as early Vectra A/Astra etc so it was fairly common. The 115bhp version is the 20NE or 18SE. If you plan on fitting the injection engine as phase 2 make sure you plumb in two fuel lines from the start. Oh, and fit the front brakes from a 2.0 Vectra A as well.

Welcome to the site. Don't forget we need photos Sounds like you get as much rust on Malta as we do here? How bad is it? Quite an early coil-over conversion on your car.

  11. Agreed and I have passed it on to VBOA.
  12. I'm 74 and on the Govt at risk list so know where you are coming from. Still go shopping but at 8 in the evening when even Tesco is virtually empty and I am masked and gloved up. Also got an ozone generator in my hall. Plus maximising my bodies resistance to bugs.
  13. I have heard nothing yet about whether the event is still on or not. Just in case I get asked I thought I would ask you lot how you and your families, friend etc feel about whether they would be happy to come. I really need those of you who are regulars to vote please even if you are not coming for other reasons please still vote 'no' as I want to get a feel as to potential numbers. Please vote quickly and feel free to make comments. Thanks John

Welcome to our site. Although most of us here, being in the UK, have the Vauxhall branded J Car we love to see the others. I myself have shipped parts to New Zealand and that's about as far away as they get. If you need new parts there is an Opel dealer in Greece who pops up here. Not cheap but genuine Ascona C parts. Hope you enjoy your visits here, we try and be a helpful bunch!
  15. Yes Greg, it is now the 10/11/12th July. No-one wanted a clash with Silverstone including Sywell.
  16. Part of the problem is that it is a midspec which are generally worth less than the early/late cars. This is especially true of the interiors which in that condition, as an SRi, would be worth hundreds as early or late. As it is I really don't know. The body shell and running gear is probably pretty shot. The engine and gearbox should be good. But these are rare now and should really be saved. But. The only way that this makes any sense is for someone who knows what they are doing to buy it and put hundreds of uncosted hours into it along with a few hundreds of £ in parts. It really needs someone who knows to look at it. Where in the country are you?
  17. Are you any good at welding or have a friend who is? Followed by a painter. There is a lot of work in that car.
  18. OK mid spec. Alloy or steel wheels with trims?
  19. OK that's post the factory shutdown summer 85. Do the seats have stripes up the middle or are they one colour with a Recaro badge at the top? Just trying to identify if it is last knockings of early spec or mid spec. The rust is probably assisted by water splash from the ground if it was in the open, so all around its outer circumference could be gone. Then depending on leaves in the drains at the base of the screen (under the bonnet) there could have been water ingress to the cabin via the heater hole. The front of the level parts of the front footwells are often rust traps lurking under perfect carpets (its the foam underneath that's the culprit).
  20. Has it got a red or a silver stripe in the bumpers?
