My wife and I own 2 Opel Manta B and we have an ascona c 1.6i for everyday use.

I hope i can find some good ideas on this page.

It has 75ps.

These engines were also built in many Opel Kadett,Astra and Vectra´s.

I forgot to say,my Ascona is a 2 door saloon,and that´s quite rare in germany.

Basically marketing in each country decide which combinations of the available varients will be sold.  

I believe that all UK cabriolets were 1.8's but were they also available in 1.6 i and 2.0SEH form on mainland europe ?

I've seen small block carb 1.6's fitted in ascona's so i'd say so, or C1.6NZ maybe.

In Germany we say " Motorkennbuchstabe"

The engine is a C16LZ with a Multec injection.

In Bulgaria the 1.6i is one of the most popular models of ascona.

What he means is : Our 1.6's all have carbs, and is the 1.6i basically the same as a 1.8e (it shares the same block ?does it not ?) with 4 injectors or similar to a mk3 (1992 on) 1.6 8V Astra which had a single large injector in what looked like a carb.  

(I suspect it uses the 1.8e injection system with slightly different ECU settings)

and what power and torque figures are standard ?

Pull the bonnet and get a few pictures mate. Does it say 1.6 INJECTION on top of the cam cover like the 1.6 GSI/GTE novas ???

from the sounds of it, its basically a small block 1.6 spi like we have here, but some of them have a even lower CR probably to cope with lower grades of fuel.

There are even two 1.6i engines:

C16LZ - with compession ratio 8.5-9.0

C16NZ - with compression ratio 9.0-9.5
